Long Way Round

Written by overland-underwater team. Uploaded 27 April 2005.

The Long Way Round team wishes us luck!

Setting off from London in April 2004, actors Charley Boorman and Ewan McGregor rode their BMW motorbikes through Europe, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Siberia, Alaska and Canada before arriving just over three months later at their final destination of New York, going the "long way round".

Along the way the intrepid pair encountered Kalashnikov-toting gangsters and extreme cuisine, survived numerous motorised scrapes often whilst traversing non existent roads days from the nearest hospital and found themselves alarmingly close to a hungry grizzly bear.

The guys kindly offered the overland-underwater team the following words of encouragement:

The Long Way Round team wish Alex, Maz, Martin and Max every success with their epic adventure. Whilst on the road, remember to look up and look around every so often to take in and appreciate the surroundings. Take the time to meet the people - this is what makes the journey really special and will be some of your most cherished memories.

In today's busy life it's fantastic and really important that people take time out to experience the world and to undertake such a journey. The trip will be both fun and arduous, but will be undoubtedly gratifying. To undertake this adventure whilst at the same time raising money for CARE International to help their work in the developing world is a very worthwhile achievement.

Be safe, take care and most importantly don't do a Russ and end up with the car on its roof!

Thanks guys!
